Sharon Saylor Obituary

Visit the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. website to view the full obituary.
Sharon Elizabeth Saylor, 72, went home to be with the Lord on February 23, 2026. A resident of Joshua Tree in North Olmsted, Sharon was born on October 19, 1953, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to Eleanor (née Kurtz) and Donald Saylor.

Sharon graduated from New Castle High School, Class of 1971. Following graduation, she proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving her country with dedication and honor until April 1978. She was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran, having achieved the rank of Yeoman Second Class.

Committed to lifelong learning, Sharon earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology from Westminster College and later obtained her master's degree in counseling services from Slippery Rock University. Her professional life reflected her heart for service, organization, and helping others.

Though her time serving as a civilian employee with the United States Army would ultimately span 25 years-working as a General Supply Specialist in Harrisburg-her love for the Navy never faded.

Throughout every season of her life, Sharon was deeply involved in her local church communities. She joyfully served on various boards and found great fulfillment in being an active and engaged member of each community she called home. Her faith was the foundation of her life.

Family meant everything to Sharon. Though she never had children of her own, her nieces and nephews were the twinkle of her eye and brought her immense pride and joy. She is survived by her brother, Daniel Kurtz Saylor and his wife, Toni Lynn (née Aiello) Saylor; her nieces and nephews, Dawn (née Saylor) Haden Frame, Shauna (née Saylor) Rob Stone, and Daniel "D.J." Jr. Cassidy (née Hyde) Saylor; as well as her beloved great-nieces and nephews, Kenneth Stone, Nora Stone, Emerson Saylor, Avery Saylor, and Braylon Saylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Eleanor (née Kurtz) Saylor; her oldest brother, Robert Saylor; and her grandparents, John and Eva (née Briggs) Kurtz, and Clarence and Rue May (Née Stuckey) Saylor.

Sharon will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her love of family, her dedication to service, and her enduring pride in serving her country. Her legacy of commitment, kindness, and community involvement will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.

A viewing service will be held on Sunday, March 1st, 2026, at First Baptist Church of LaGrange 200 Church Street Lagrange Ohio, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., with a funeral service immediately following.

Monday, March 2nd military service will be held at R. Cunningham Funeral Home 2429 Wilmington Road New Castle, Pennsylvania, viewing from noon to 1:00 p.m. and the service to follow.
