Sharon Kay Wharton, 80, of St. Joseph, Missouri and a former resident of Maryville, Missouri, passed away on March 9, 2025 at her home surrounded by family.
Sharon was born in Gentry County, Missouri on November 15, 1944 as the daughter of Theodore and Basha (Pierce) Wharton.
She attended Jennings School near Alanthus thru grade school, and then went on to Stanberry R-2 School graduating in 1962. She earned her Associates Degree in Office Administration from Northwest Missouri State University in 1987.
Sharon worked as secretary in the Department of Education at NWMSU for many years, then went on to retire from the Maryville office of the Social Security Administration after 20 years of service.
Sharon grew up attending the Alanthus Grove Church of Christ where she accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Church near Stanberry for many years, and she was most recently a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church in St. Joseph, MO.
Sharon loved her family and treasured every moment with them. She loved her role as mother, grandmother, and Gigi. She loved planning and hosting Sunday dinners for her family, lunch dates with her friends, and watching the Chiefs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, David Cogdill, and her siblings, Ruby (Bentley), Rex, Truman, Laton, and Boyd.
She is survived by her children, Terri (Rob) Hecox, Kansas City, MO, Tammy Soil, St. Joseph, MO, and Chad Cogdill, Kansas City, MO; Grandchildren, JD Soil (Rachel Mckeighan), Brittany (Chris) McCandless, and Hunter Woods; Great-Grandchildren, Cruz McCandless, Nyomi Soil, Beck McCandless, and Zara Soil; and many nieces and nephews.
Sharon has been cremated under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Stanberry, MO.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22 at Roberson Funeral Home, Stanberry, MO. Private Family Inurnment will be held in Jennings Cemetery, Alanthus Grove, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Children's Mercy Hospital in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O.
