Sharon Kay Wyrick, 82, of Michigantown, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Wellbrooke of Kokomo. She was born September 1, 1941, in Frankfort to Francis “Short” and Joan (Ogle) Irwin. She married Richard Wyrick on November 28, 1964, and he survives.

Sharon was a 1959 graduate of Jackson Township High School. She graduated from Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and received her Master of Education from IU Kokomo. She taught one year in Anaheim, CA before returning home to teach at Jackson Township. She then taught at Clinton Central Elementary School for over 25 years until her retirement. She was passionate about teaching and molding the minds of youth. She served as a Mentor for Purdue University Student Teachers and participated in Aftermath retired teachers program. 

Sharon was very active in the world around her. In Indiana, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority while at Ball State; member of Forest United Methodist Church where she served as a board member, Sunday School Teacher and sang in the choir, served on the Emmaus Walk, Pioneer Farmers, 10 year 4-H Member, Kirklin Christian Church Summer Lunch Program. She also loved traveling and wintering with her husband in Florida. While in Florida she was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Fort Myers where she played in the bell choir and volunteered in the “Clothes Closet,” and was very active at Cinnamon Cove Retirement Community, the Cinnamon Cove Players musical theater group and multiple activities. 

Along with traveling with her husband, Sharon enjoyed traveling around the world with her local friends travel group, eating ice cream daily, sewing, working in her flower garden, playing cards, going for walks, going to beaches, swimming, shopping trips with her sister. But her true passion was the love of her family and the love of her Lord. She loved making memories with her family, especially her granddaughters. 

Along with her husband of 59 years, Sharon is survived by her children, Polly (Terry) Ulrich of Ashley, ND, Dean (Tammy) Wyrick of Columbus, IN, and David (Melanie) Wyrick of Greenville, SC; sister, Pam Day of Arlington Heights, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Wyrick, Stephanie Wyrick, Abigail Wyrick, Caleigh Wyrick, Ellie Wyrick, Clara Wyrick; great grandchild, Ada McGill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brothers-in-law, Bob Day and J. Allen Wyrick.

Visitation will be held, Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 11am until the time of the service at 1pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Pastor Bob Raschka will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Forest United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society.
