Shaun Matthew Van Camp

Shaun Matthew Van Camp passed away on November 1, 2025 in Laplace, La, at the age of 46.
He was born in Marrero, La, and attended Johnson Ehret High School and East St. John. After high school, Shaun worked for Cajun Electrical Supply Inc. with his father and other family members, and continued to do so for the remainder of his career.
Shaun was naturally curious, and loved to learn. He dedicated much of his time to learning about medicinal plants, mental health, politics, and better ways to help those around him through developing new levels of understanding, as well as coping skills. He was someone who truly wanted to make life better for those around him.
More than anything, he loved being a father to his two sons, Jaden Van Camp and Jax Van Camp. They were his entire world. He spent countless hours with them outdoors recording their adventures, exploring nature, studying plants, fungi, fishing, and weapons, as well as how to properly handle them. He enjoyed teaching them about all of the things he loved.
If you ever met Shaun, you know he had a great sense of humor, a big heart, and a unique way of seeing the world. He had a deep appreciation for the beauty of what God gave us. We will deeply miss everything about him.
Survived by his two sons Jaden and Jax Sornito Van Camp; their mother Ida Sornito; his father Robert J. Van Camp (Terri); Tanya Bell (His Love); brothers Jeremy and Kevin Van Camp; sisters Kristy Dyess and Monique Martinez; nieces Brianna and Brandie, Tiffani, and Falon Dyess; nephews Kyler, Blaise, Easton, Anthony Surmik, Ryan, Forrest and Colt Dyess. Preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Chaisson; maternal grandparents, Erica and Wilber "Woody" Chaisson; paternal grandparents, Robert E. and Emilia "Tunie" Van Camp.
