Obituary published on Legacy.com by MacDonald Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Aug. 13, 2025.
Shawn David Homer passed away at 48 years old August 9th 2025, at 1:12 pm, at the Melech Hospice House in Tampa Florida which was less than a mile from his house. Shawn was born in Monticello, NY August 15, 1976.
Shawn was diagnosed with colorectal cancer about 3 years ago and fought a courageous battle with it but he always kept a positive attitude through it all which helped all who tried to help him in so many ways during the most difficult part of his life, cope much better with it.
Shawn whose rap handle was Shawn D. loved to write and perform rap and hip hop music and since he got sick had recorded over 40 of his favorite songs on Star Maker. A lot of his best friends and relatives have seen him perform on stage plus at his house parties during karaoke events with a couple of his rap friends multiple times which was always a great time enjoyed by us all. You never heard anybody sing rap music as fast as he could. He had an impeccable memory which made him and his friends that sang with him very entertaining. He got into rap music at its very inception back in the early to mid 1980's when it hit America by storm. Naturally most of his best friends are good rap singers also.
Everybody who knew Shawn well would have to admit that he was one of the nicest men that they ever met in their lives. He never had a bad word about anybody he ever met. He was the male clone of his mother that way. All of his best friends and closest relatives are going to miss him terribly. Shawn never met anybody who didn't want to be his friend once they got to know him well. He had such a great personality. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it and looked after everyone. He never looked at the negative side of life.
Shawn is survived by his wife Lisa Burruano Homer and her parents Sal and Kay, his father John F. Jack Homer, Tampa Florida, his sister Hilary Homer Garrett and her family, husband D.J. and 3 nieces, Grace, Hope and Joy of Florida, his uncle and aunt Tom and Linda Homer of Rochester, NY, his aunt Karen Ramnath of Philadelphia PA, uncle Benny Cutrone of Long Island NY, his aunt and uncle Christine and Peter Brooks of Amityville NY plus 12 first cousins including his favorite first cousin Vijay Ramnath of Philadelphia PA plus two of his best friends Ali Malphus who was his wedding's best man and his very close friends Laz Ugarte, Chad Flowers and David Rivera. He was predeceased by his mother Melanie Graham Homer who passed away in 2003, his uncle Jim Homer of Windsor NY who just passed away in March of 2025, his aunt Susan Cutrone of Long Island NY, his aunt Kathy Mannino of Medford, Oregon and uncle Bala Ramnath of Philadelphia, PA plus 2 first cousins.
