He moved to Denton and attended the University of North Texas where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and later a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Following in his parents’ footsteps, he pursued a career in coaching and teaching. During this time, he was blessed with his first daughter, Hallie, from his marriage to Lacey Phillips.
In 2009, Shawn was hired at Lakeview Middle School in The Colony, Texas where he coached football, basketball, track, and soccer, and began a Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter. In 2012, he extended a job opportunity to Alexis Anderson. Their courtship began that Fall and flourished until they were married in 2016. Together they had two daughters, Ainsley and Kinley, and one son, Owen.

His presence filled every room he entered, and his leadership, confidence, and work ethic were gifts he modeled to young men and peers during his coaching era, as well in all that he endeavored.
He was an optimist, encourager, counselor, and friend. He loved adventure and sought it by traveling internationally, through ministry and recreationally, sky diving, competing in Spartan races, and starting his own business in 2021.
The biggest and greatest legacy Shawn left behind was his faith in his savior, Jesus.
