Sheila Maria (Anthony) Banks passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2025. She was the beloved middle child of Elder James and Velma Anthony and was deeply cherished by her family and all who knew her.
Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of six, Sheila faced the challenges of her condition with remarkable strength, courage, and resilience. She was known for her joyful and vibrant personality, always bringing laughter and happiness to every gathering.
Sheila began her education in the Norfolk Public School system, attending from pre-kindergarten through middle school, and later graduated from Indian River High School. She continued her studies at Tidewater Community College and Miller-Motte College in Clarksville, TN, earning her associate's degree in nursing.
Sheila accepted Christ into her life as a teenager and during that time was a member of Garden of Prayer #3 COGIC. She served in the youth choir and the usher board.
During her teen years, she met her future husband, Cleveland Deon Banks. Their loving marriage spanned 32 years and was marked by steadfast devotion and partnership. As a military spouse, Sheila lived in several states, faithfully supporting her husband throughout his service.
A devoted dog mom to her beloved fur baby, Prince, Sheila was passionate about reading and lifelong learning. In recent years, she discovered a new love for crocheting.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, James and Velma Anthony. She is fondly remembered by her devoted husband, Cleveland Deon Banks of Virginia Beach, VA; her siblings, James "Chris" Anthony (Tiffany) of Suffolk, VA, Cassandra Harris (Karl) of Chesapeake, VA, and Darlene Dennis (Bernard) of Hampton, VA; her mother-in-law Audrey Powell, sister-in-law Latoria Jones (Stanley), and brother-in-law Tank Powell (Ladawn), and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
"A wife full of love, a sister full of life, and an aunt who made every moment special."
