Sheila Fitzpatrick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sullivan Funeral Home - Hanover on Jan. 5, 2026.
Sheila Roach Fitzpatrick, age 86, entered into eternal life on Christmas Day, 2025. It was a fitting homecoming for a woman of profound faith to be called to her Savior on the day of His birth. Born on January 3, 1939, Sheila grew up in East Bridgewater and was the beloved daughter of the late David and Alice (Jones) Roach.

Sheila lived a life defined by quiet generosity, humility, and devotion. A faithful Catholic, she lived her beliefs through compassion and service to others. She was known for her strength and independent spirit, remaining active well into her 80s-driving herself to volunteer, attend Mass, and support her family.

A loving and devoted mother, Sheila was a constant, steady presence in the lives of her four children. She found her greatest joy in her grandchildren, whether she was cheering them on at sporting events or simply sharing in the quiet moments of their everyday lives. She was drawn to quiet service rather than attention, offering her time and care to those in need without expectation of recognition.

Her faith guided her daily. An avid reader of spiritual works and a lover of music, Sheila found great joy singing at Golden Melodies Chorus in Plymouth. She also found peace in God's creation, especially the ocean, warmth of the sun, and time spent in nature. Her warm smile, gentle laugh, and calm presence made all who knew her feel at ease.

Sheila was the loving mother of David Fitzpatrick of Cape Cod; Ralph Fitzpatrick of Quincy; Sean Fitzpatrick of South Boston; and Amy Hayes and her husband, Tom, of Perry, Ohio. She was the dear sister of Kate McLeod and her partner, Mark West, of New York City, and the late Alice McLeod Roach and her late husband, Duff Gilchrist; Marianne Corrou and her late husband, Vincent; and Nancy DeWachter and her late husband, Maurice. She was the cherished grandmother of Heather, David Jr., Stephen, Kayleigh, Taylor, Amanda, Briella, Michael, and Jeffrey.

Visiting hours will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St. (Route 53), Hanover, on Sunday, January 11th, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Angels Parish, St. Mary's Church, 392 Hanover St., Hanover at 9 a.m. followed by burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sheila's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

I had the pleasure of being Sheila´s next door neighbor in Plymouth for the last three years. Despite a nearly 40 year age difference, we instantly became friends. I could always count on a warm hug and nice conversation.
Last winter I went through a really dark period in my life, and the one person who was always there for me....was Sheila. She checked on me every single day and more so when I got a little too quiet. I will always treasure the times we sat at my table or on her couch, and she would just listen to me, without judgment or criticism. I always felt like I could tell her anything.
I recently moved from the apartment, and I am so grateful that my last memory with her was a couple months ago, she came over to see my new home and she got to see my happy ending. My happiness truly meant something to her. I will never forget everytime I said I love you, she would always reply, "I love you more Allison."
Her service this morning was beautiful, and my takeaway is that she had so much love for family, friends, and strangers....and yet still had more leftover. I will think of her often and happily. Sheila, you still have a seat at my wedding. Love you.

Dear sweet Sheila, I will miss you terribly. Seeing your smiling face at CAL. Seeing you at Church and touching hands as we passed each other after communion. May you rest in peace as you enter your eternal life. I will think of you often and remember you as a very special person.
