Sheila Clopton Jernigan
August 13, 1939 - June 5, 2025
Sheila Clopton Jernigan, age 85, a lifelong resident of Pensacola, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sheila's greatest joy in life was her family. Her love for them was unwavering and evident in all that she did.
Sheila was a dedicated and industrious entrepreneur. After gaining experience working with various local businesses, she went on to establish Briarwood Manor, a successful bridal and catering business in Pensacola. Through her work, she took immense pride in assisting brides-to-be in selecting their wedding attire and in creating distinctive events tailored to each couple's vision. Whether through her meticulous attention to food, décor, or color schemes, Sheila brought a unique flair to every occasion she touched.
Renowned for her strength, resilience, and spirited nature, Sheila was known as a woman who never shied away from hard work. Her generosity and compassion were evident in every act of service, no matter how big or small. Even during her later years in assisted living, she remained committed to helping others-frequently assisting fellow residents and offering to lend a hand to staff whenever possible.
Sheila was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and found comfort in her faith. She especially appreciated the visits and spiritual support from the Eucharistic Minister of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Sheila will be remembered for her strength, her generous spirit, and the profound impact she had on all who knew her.
Sheila is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Curtis, of 42 years; her son, Preston Jernigan; her parents, Sidney and Agnes (Lockwood) Clopton; her brothers, Chipley, Jeff, Tommy, and Jerry; and her sister, Loice Clopton Jackson.
She is survived by her children, Michael Castro (Sharon), Bobby Jernigan (Shamara), and Jenny Smith; and her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of whom she was immensely proud. She is also survived by her siblings, Johnnie Clopton (Joyce), Joyce Edgar (Franklin), Gail Baglioni (Vincent), David Clopton (Debbie); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she held dear. To Sheila, family meant everything.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday June 12, 2025, at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel, 6405 Highway 90 W Milton, FL 32570, with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and service at 6:00 p.m., officiated by Father Licari. Interment will take place at Sullivan Cemetery in Milton.
In addition to flowers, donations may be made in memory of Sheila Jernigan to Pensacola Catholic High School or the American Cancer Society.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Berryhill Manor and VITAS Hospice Care for their compassionate care and support during Sheila's final days.
