Sheila Joyner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home - Whitley City on Feb. 12, 2025.
Sheila Jean Joyner (Vanover), age 57, of Lexington, Kentucky passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025 at her home.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 14, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Braxton King officiating. Burial was in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
She was born on March 23, 1967, in Rantoul, Illinois, to Dr. Gilbert VanOver Jr. and Ruth Ann Vanover.
Sheila was the youngest of five children, and dedicated her life to public service. She worked as a manager at Druthers of Whitley City for her late mother, Ruth. She moved to Richmond, KY where she became a manager of Central Bank and eventually transitioned to work for the federal government at the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Sheila recently retired from federal service in 2024.
Sheila settled for nothing but the best for herself and her family. She took great pride in her role as a wife, mother, and "Nana" to her grandbabies. She loved giving her grandbabies attention and love, and spoiling them whenever she could.
Sheila was a passionate fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, where she would regularly attend games with her husband, Hector. She loved decorating and remodeling projects. During the summer, she could always be found on Lake Cumberland enjoying the water with her family. Her greatest joy came from caring for those around her and spending time with her family. She will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile and eyes, her free spirit, and truly loving heart. She will be deeply missed by her immediate and extended family, her colleagues throughout the years, and all whose lives she touched.
Sheila is survived by her loving husband, Hector Joyner; her daughters, Amber (Brandon) Newmyer, Brooklyn (Zac Strunk) Hart, and Cierra (Josh) Parks; her sons, Garrett (Chelsea) Jones and Brandon (Jerica Smith) Joyner; her 14 grandchildren; father, Dr. Gilbert VanOver Jr.; and brothers, Gilbert (Phyllis) VanOver III and Vaughn (Suzanne) VanOver.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Ann VanOver; her brother, Jay VanOver; and her sister Pam VanOver.
