Shelby Don Holley, a cherished father, grandfather, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 81. Born on May 26, 1943, in Levelland, Texas, Shelby dedicated his life to serving others in his career within the insurance and financial planning services industry.
A proud graduate of Lubbock High School, Class of 1961, Shelby exemplified the values of hard work and perseverance throughout his life. He was a steadfast provider for his family, pouring his heart into supporting them and ensuring their happiness. Shelby's love for his family was immeasurable; he adored his wife, Rita A. Holley, who preceded him in death and together they created a life filled with laughter and love.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, James Thressus Holley and Lucy Bell Holley; his sister, Ila Gay Worley; his grandsons, Nicholas Grant Maltzman, and Taber James Bell and twin great-granddaughters.
His legacy continues through his beloved daughters, Dana Bell and her spouse Walter, and Kellie Maltzman, as well as his son, Carey Don Holley. He was blessed with a beautiful family that includes his grandchildren—Brandy Long, Shanna Aguilar, Jordan Holley, Allysa Holley, Brooke Holley, and Alexis Hinojosa—who brought immense joy to his life. Shelby also cherished his role as a great-grandfather to 16 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Shelby's warm spirit extended beyond his immediate family. He is survived by his sisters, Threesa Ann Peek and Lanell Williamson, who will forever hold dear the cherished memories of their time together. His humor and kindness touched all who knew him; he had a knack for telling jokes and was lovingly dubbed the "King of Dad Jokes." His honesty was known to be sincere, and his love for animals, especially dogs, showcased his gentle, caring nature.
Shelby will be remembered with love and admiration, not only for his role as a family man but for the joy he brought to everyone around him. The memories shared with him live on, a testament to the strong bonds he built throughout his life.
