A celebration of life will be held for Shelby Hopkins at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Hilliard Funeral Home with Dr. Shelby Davidson officiating.

Shelby Dale Hopkins was born November 11, 1935, in Van, Texas. He honorably served in the US Army from 1954-1957. Shelby enjoyed tending to his cattle, loved fishing, and was a faithful supporter of Vandal football. He had been a resident of Van most of his life, also living in the Dallas area while working as a supervisor for Texas Instruments. In 2011, he moved to Tyler and has since lived at the Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home.

Shelby passed away at the age of 90 on January 17, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Effie Crocker Hopkins; daughter, Julie Overman; son, David Hopkins; brother, Billy Hopkins; and niece, Misty Smith.

Survivors include his three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby Sitton of Lindale, Charlene & Burt Smith of Van, and Kathy & Wes Organ of Hideaway; son and daughter-in-law, Russell & Angela Hopkins of Van; four grandchildren, Danielle Griffith and husband, Travis, of Van, Maxx Gordon and wife, Carolyn, of Van, Reilly Gordon of Grand Saline, and Shelby Nicole Hopkins of Van; six great-grandchildren; and a host of niece, nephews, cousins, and friends.
