She was born on June 25, 1940 in Anderson, South Carolina and was the daughter of the late Arthur E. Alexander and Florence Evans Alexander.
Shelby was preceded in death by the love of her life Gerald Satterfield. They were married for 65 years beginning at the tender age of 17. She traveled by train to San Diego, CA to be with her husband who was enlisted in the US Navy. They both admit that this was the happiest years of their lives.
Later in life, she was employed for 19 years at the Torrington Bearings Plant where she made many lifelong friends. She was very talented with arts and crafts and loved spending time working in her yard with her flowers. Shelby was also a faithful member of Bellview Baptist Church.
Shelby is survived by her son, David Satterfield (Christy), her daughter, Lawana Timmerman (Tim) and Steve Martin (who she considered her 2nd son); her grandchildren, Alex Satterfield (Krishan), Lauren Henderson (Ed), Nathan Timmerman; her great-grandchildren, Adelaide and Benton Satterfield; her brother, Jimmy Alexander (Lenora).
In addition to her parents and husband, Shelby is preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Scott (Charles), Deloris Gregory (William), Nancy Armstrong (Keith) and her brother, Stanley Alexander.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Pinelawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Tim Timmerman officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM in the Mausoleum Chapel prior to the service.
The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Catherine (BayBay) Blueford and Jonny Mae Coleman.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Shelby with memorials to Hospice of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646.
