Mrs. Shelby Dean Nelson Walker, 84, of Winston-Salem, entered her heavenly home on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington.
Born on August 17, 1941, in Stokes County, Shelby was the daughter of the late Rufus and Ethie May Nelson. She was a devoted pastor’s wife whose life beautifully reflected the virtues of Proverbs 31. Shelby was a beloved wife of 61 years, a cherished mother, a proud MeMe, and a faithful servant whose gentle spirit touched all who knew her. She especially adored her grandchildren and had a lifelong love for sewing and caring for children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her eight siblings.
Left to remember her with love are her husband, W.H. “Larry” Walker, of the home; her son, Larry Dean Walker (Kari); her daughter, Debra Bryant (Robbie); and her treasured grandchildren: Dakota Walker (Claire), Sydney Ramsey (Kendall), Siarra Walker, Abby Bryant, Hunter Walker (Samara), and Tori Minor (Andrew). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Norah Walker and Brooke Walker; numerous nieces and nephews; and her many beloved granddogs and grandcats.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Hanes Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hanes Baptist Church, 4210 Sabrina Lake Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
