April 8th, 2025 at the age of 86With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sheldon "Shelly" Richard Lefkowitz, who died peacefully on April 8, 2025.
Born on May 15, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, to David and Gert Lefkowitz, Shelly lived an extraordinary life defined by brilliance, humility, humor, and unwavering generosity of spirit. He was the beloved husband of Judith Leventhal Lefkowitz-his partner in life for 65 years-and a devoted father to Michael, Steven (Clarissa), and Randi (Mike) Stummer. He was also a proud and loving grandfather to his eight grandchildren: Benjamin, Jack, Matthew, Jamie Rose, Abigail, William, Frances, and Nathan.
Shelly's warmth and energy lit up every room he entered. He was enormously charismatic-loud, entertaining, and unforgettable. Often described as the smartest and most clever person people had ever met, his quick wit and intellect were matched only by his kindness and humility. He was a fantastic listener, and a deeply thoughtful friend, father and husband.
A standout student from a young age, Shelly graduated from Cleveland Heights High School before attending the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, where he graduated as the top student in accounting. He went on to attend Harvard Law School, graduating with honors. He served his country as a Defense Electronics Contracting Officer for two years.
In 1967, Shelly returned to Cleveland with his growing family before moving to Columbus in 1969, where he settled in Bexley-a community he and his family would call home for decades. It was there that Shelly built not just a life, but a legacy. He founded his own investment firm, identifying and supporting numerous successful ventures over the course of his remarkable career.
Shelly was a gifted adviser to his children and grandchildren. Shelly was a diehard fan - he never missed a Browns or Guardians game unless it conflicted with one of his grandchildren's events. Shelly loved nothing more than family trips and adventures.
Shelly was preceded in death by his parents, David and Gert, and his brothers Barry and Jimmy. His memory will be forever cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, intellect, and generosity-a life well lived and deeply appreciated.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025. Shiva will be held at the home of Mike and Randi Stummer, 2485 Sheringham Road, Upper Arlington, on Friday, April 11 from 2pm-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable donations be made at Brothers for Life (link found below).
