Sheldon Wasserman, age 95, of Wayne, NJ passed away Monday, October 7, 2024. He was born on November 17, 1928 in Manhattan and raised in Beacon, NY and Somerville, NJ, where his father was the rabbi. He went to Rutgers University for his undergraduate degree and Columbia University for optometry school. He served in the army for 2 years. He settled in New Windsor, NY with his wife and 2 children, where he opened his optometry practice. He was an active member of the community. He served as President of Toastmasters and B'nai B'rith and performed in many local community theater plays. He enjoyed going to the senior center every Friday to do his artwork. He was known for his zest for life and his fancy dance moves. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He lived in Wayne, NJ for the last 4 years of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Rhea; his son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Charissa Wasserman; his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Matt Halpern; his three grandchildren, Josh, Sam and Gavi; and his sister, Lois Dinkin.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Farband Cemetery, Morris, CT.
Donations in his memory can be made to the American Friends of Magen David Adom.
