Shelfa Williams, laid her crown at the Lord's feet on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on April 15, 1948, in
Jacksonville, Florida, she was a lifelong resident of this vibrant city. Shelfa was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, whose warm spirit and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew her.
Shelfa was the cherished daughter of Elonnie and Horace Poole, who have preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her brothers, Sylvester Gillyard and Leonard Gillyard, both of whom she held dear in her heart. Although her family experienced great loss, Shelfa's legacy of love and resilience lives on through her children, Latricia Rodriguez, Lloyd Williams, Tarrell Williams (Melody), Micheal Goodman, Regina "Shay" Green (Darryl), Kenny Meeks (Sheila), Patricia Polite, and Terri Williams. Her family was her pride and joy, and she nurtured them with unwavering love and support.
Shelfa was an integral part of a large, loving family that extended beyond her immediate children. She is survived by her sister, Tammy Poole Holmes; her brother, Leon Gillyard; her aunt, Rodine Horne; and her uncle, Jesse Woolbright. Shelfa was a devoted grandmother to her many grandchildren, including Kedra Robinson, Klonnie Adams (Panna), Johisha Williams, Earl Williams, Siera Rodriguez, Tamica Williams, Santos Rodriguez, Felton James, Leroy James, Roberto Rodriguez, Kessie Williams, Gregory Brown Jr., Katrina Brown (Pooh), Katrina Morris, Tarrell Williams II, Briana Williams, Avery Williams, Lloyd Williams Jr., Khenlroh Casey, Ivory Williams, Cherrelle Pullins, D'Yirha Kennedy, Darryn Green, Darrius Green, Shadana Williams, DaZiyah Bartley, and Courtney Brown. Shelfa also adored her host of great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.
Her special nieces and nephews, Leon Gillyard Jr., Lenora Gillyard Stafford, Elonda Holmes, Gregory Holmes Jr., and Christopher Holmes, also held a special place in her heart. Shelfa's family extended far and wide, encompassing a host of other loving relatives and friends who will miss her deeply.
Shelfa was a proud graduate of the Public Schools of Duval County, having graduated from the esteemed Stanton High School. Her journey through life led her to a fulfilling career in retail services, where she showcased her dedication and strong work ethic. Shelfa was also known for her vibrant personality and her love for cooking, playing spades, and engaging in digital games on her phone. Most importantly, she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding joy in their laughter and the memories they created together.
In her community, Shelfa was a nurturing figure who brought warmth and kindness to everyone she encountered. Her legacy of love, compassion, and strength will be remembered and celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we reflect on her remarkable journey, we find comfort in knowing that her legacy will live on through her family and the countless lives she touched throughout her time with us. Shelfa Williams will be deeply missed, but her love and light will forever shine in our hearts. May she rest in peace.
