Shelia Holbrook Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buchanan Funeral Home - Austin on Feb. 3, 2026.
Shelia Boyd Holbrook, aged 80, of Austin, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in her residence. Born on March 6, 1945, in Scottsburg, Indiana, she was the cherished daughter of the late Floyd Boyd and Gladys (Casey) Boyd. Shelia's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and service, woven with the threads of family, community, and entrepreneurship.

In 1975, Shelia united in marriage with Earl Holbrook, who preceded her in death on April 19, 2022. Together, they shared a life full of love and mutual respect until his passing. Shelia was a woman of many talents and interests. She was the proud owner of Backwoods Antiques in North Vernon, Indiana, where she shared her passion for history and vintage treasures with the community. In addition to her business pursuits, Shelia served as a compassionate recreational therapist at the old Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville, Indiana, where she enjoyed taking residence on outings and adventures

Shelia's legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her devoted children: Janie (Billy) Asbury of Columbus, Indiana; Mary Jo (Jamie) Boyt of Scottsburg, Indiana; Camille (Matt Miller) Holbrook of Austin, Indiana; and son Lee (Darlene) Sharp of North Vernon, Indiana. Her brothers, Ronnie Boyd and Dale Boyd of North Vernon, Indiana, and Fred (Helen) Boyd of Austin, Indiana, also survive her. Shelia's life was further enriched by the joy of her grandchildren: Megan (Robert) Hickman, Michelle (Ryan) Matern, Brandon Sharp, Langdon Holbrook, and Gracie Holbrook. Her dedicated caregiver, Nettie Ruark of Butlerville, Indiana, provided comfort and companionship in her final months.

Shelia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Holbrook, and her brothers, Jack and Terry Boyd.

A direct cremation was chosen, respecting Shelia's wishes. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, allowing those who loved her to honor her memory and the impact she had on their lives.

Shelia Boyd Holbrook lived a life marked by kindness, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her family. Her story is not one of an end but a continuing influence that will be felt for generations to come.
