Shelia Jean Ruth Gielow

Shelia Jean Ruth Gielow, age 88, passed away peacefully Tuesday October 8, 2024, at her home in Surfside Beach, SC.
Formerly of Traverse City, MI, Shelia was born in Elberta, MI the daughter of the late Richard and Aristine Manke.
Sheila worked as a floral designer before beginning her career as the office manager for a Physician. She loved the water, the beaches and hills of Elberta, MI and enjoyed sunbathing and walking along the shore to collect stones and shells. Over the years Shelia loved many arts including painting, stained glass, weaving, rug hooking and more. She rarely had idle hands because she was always knitting or crocheting an afghan, sweater, scarf, baby gift or one of the hundreds of hats she donated to the homeless. Shelia loved gardening, arranging flowers and especially reading. She was always learning something new. Shelia was strong, independent, and always lovingly taking care of others and was known to have never met a stranger and also had a passion for animals.
In addition to her parents, Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dye in 2015, husband, Richard Gielow in 2023 and her sons, Christopher Mattoon and Jeffery Mattoon.
Survivors include her children, Kevin Mattoon, Owosso, MI; Angie (Steve) Hutchinson, SC; brothers, Karl (Carolyn) Manke, MI; Richard (Marti) Manke, OH; Tom Manke, MI; grandchildren, Jason Van Horne, LA; Kaden Stone, TX; Lauren (Craig) Burks, SC; great grandson, Henry and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Shelia's Life will be held at a later date with day and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Shelia's name to Cherryland Humane Society, in Traverse City, MI at www.cherryland.org or to your local Humane Society.
The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of Patriot Hospice for all their support and loving care.
