Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM Thursday, with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Shelton Davidson was born December 10th, 1948, at Hurley Hospital in Flint Michigan to Sydney Davidson and Sammie Jones. Shelton graduated from Flint Central High School. At age 19, he was drafted and deployed to serve in the Vietnam War. Shelton was Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant with the following commendations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ Device, Army Commendation Medal, and Air Medal.
Upon his return to Flint, Shelton worked for Buick Motor Company, a division of General Motors Corporation in various roles before retiring after 32 years of service. Throughout this time, he attended Mott Community College, Baker College, and the University of Michigan (Flint) School of Management.
Shelton wholeheartedly gave his life to God and served Him to the best of his ability. He became baptized at age 24 as a member of the North Street Seventh Day Adventist Church and later Fairhaven Seventh Day Adventist Church. He served faithfully as a Deacon, but most notably Treasurer for 40 years, where he was able to demonstrate his natural aptitude for accounting/math. Shelton also enjoyed his time serving as an assistant Pathfinder Leader, allowing him to utilize and share his army and people skills with others. He enjoyed interacting and teaching the youth of his church, along with Bobby Porter and Robert Miller.
Shelton's hobbies and interests became his passions at various times in his life after Vietnam. Breeding, raising, and showing German Shepherd dogs that produced several champions over the years. He loved gardening on his land and sharing his crops with family, neighbors, and friends brought him great joy. In recent years after retirement, Shelton enjoyed working on cars which benefited not only his family and friends, but strangers as well. The only mishap he had was when his own car caught on fire in the middle of Carpenter Rd. after he improperly wired something. He and Gloria literally ran for their lives! Other interests included reading, listening to classical music, reciting poetry, sharing many stories from childhood school days and his Vietnam experiences. Shelton will be most remembered for his life of service and love he had for his family, friends, and church.
