Dunn, NC: Mr. Shelton Jackson Hinnant, age 80, died Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Clayton Rehabilitation Center in Clayton. Funeral service will be 2:00PM Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Smyrna Original Free Will Baptist Church in Dunn. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Nowell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hinnant was born on July 2, 1944 in Nash County to the late Archie and Chessie Mae Tippett Hinnant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Hinnant; and a grandson, Chris Lee. Mr. Hinnant was a retired semi-truck driver for various trucking companies. He was a member of Smyrna Original Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Hinnant loved spending time with his family, grilling out, and was known to be a jokester. He was always the favorite grandson of Mr. Jackson Tippett.
Surviving includes his bonus children, Wanda Lee of Four Oaks, Darlene and Frankie Hobson of Dunn, and Don Stanley and Debbie of Four Oaks; children, Belinda Jenkins and Mark, Randy and Gail Hinnant all of Clayton; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Rudene Griffin of Zebulon, Shirley Wiggs of Angier, and Neva Brantley of Wendell; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 12:45PM - 1:45PM PM Tuesday, January 14, 2025 prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of Darlene & Frankie Hobson, 415 Lee Johnson Rd, Dunn, NC 28334.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Smyrna Original Free Will Baptist Church, 11415 NC Hwy 96 S. Dunn, NC 28334 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
