Shelton Thompson, age 58 of Ledbetter died Friday, January 31, 2025 at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. He was born the son of the late Rev. James Thompson, Sr. and Elnora Thomas Thompson. Shelton was a gifted athlete and excelled in football. He was a proud member of the 1985 Florida State recruiting class, the main class behind the "Seminole Dynasty." He played linebacker/defensive lineman at Florida State from 1985 to 1989. Shelton was an avid Seminoles fan until his passing. He was of the Baptist faith.
A Memorial Service will be planned for a later date. Keeling & Goodman Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Thompson family.
He is survived by his sons: A.J. Thompson of Marion, Kentucky, and Sean Thompson (Brittany) of Paducah; his daughter: Sophia Rene Thompson of Denver, Colorado; his brothers; James Thompson, Jr. of Lakeland, Florida, and Ron Thompson of Aurora, Colorado; and his grandson: Avery Thompson of Paducah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: William Gene Thompson.
