Shepherd Dee Graves Jr.

A TIME TO BE BORN - Shepherd Dee Graves Jr., affectionately called "Shep," was born on June 24,1946, in James City County, VA. He was the first child born to the late Shepherd and Edna Graves. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ at the Morning Star Baptist Church, Spring Grove, VA and where he remained a lifelong member.
A TIME TO LEARN - Shepherd Jr. was a very intelligent and resilient man. He was educated in the Washington, DC public school system. He received his diploma from Cardozo Senior High School in 1964.
A TIME TO LIVE - As a young adult, Shepherd Jr. was a hard worker. He held several jobs including Technical Assistant at the Library of Congress and in the early 1970's he joined C & P Telephone Company (now Verizon) as a trailblazer. He worked several years with mainframe computers. His memory for historical dates and details was remarkable.
A TIME TO LOVE - He was married to Sandra Briggs for many years, from this union came two daughters, Glenda Graves and Tracie Clements. His two granddaughters Brittney Clements and Ashley Alston were his pride and joy.
A TIME TO LAUGH - He enjoyed music, hand-dancing, and sports, especially basketball. He was known for his cool demeanor and loyalty to family and friends. His "Holloway gentleman-charm" with the ladies was legendary and his quick wit was the highlight of every occasion.
A TIME TO DIE - On Friday, May 26, 2023, Shepherd Graves Jr. answered the call of the Almighty in Washington, DC, following an extended illness. He transitioned to a peaceful rest.
He is predeceased by: devoted daughter, Tracie Clements; loving parents Shepherd and Edna Graves, and loyal brother, Michael Graves.
He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted daughter, Glenda Graves; adoring granddaughters Brittney Clements and Ashley Alston; loyal brothers, Leon Graves (Sheila), and Reginald Graves (Margaret); caring sister, Gloria Graves, uncle, Andrew Holloway and Aunt Mildred Holloway and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
Home going service will be held 1 P.M., Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Morning Star Baptist Church, 19121 Brandon Rd., Spring Grove, VA, Rev. Dr. Robert L. Elliott, Jr. Pastor, eulogist. Interment to follow at Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will assemble 12:30 P.M. at the church on the day of service.
