Sheree Ann Hansen Lewis
(July 29, 1956- March 2, 2025)
Sheree was born in Logan, Utah on July 29, 1956 to Sheridan and Annette Hyer Hansen. Sheree's name came from a combination of her parents Sheridan and Annette's names. She was the second daughter in the family, but her older sister Lorie passed away at birth. This made her the oldest sister to her four younger siblings, Kip, Julie, KathiJo, and Kris.
She was very motherly even at a very young age, and was responsible for assisting in the family. Sheree showed skill in arts and crafts, as well, often taking scraps of fabric and making doll clothes for herself and her sisters.
The family moved to Richfield when she was 4, and they lived there for 6 years where she began her schooling. Monticello, Utah was the next stop on their journey and she continued to excel in school through her Sophomore year in high school After a move to Burley, Idaho she completed the last two years of her high school gaining some life long friendships. She attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho and then moved to study and graduate from Brigham Young University with a degree in Family and Consumer Science. She developed a very strong bond with her college roommates who she continued to keep in contact with for the remainder of her life.
While at BYU she met Scott Even Lewis, who was at school on a Photography scholarship. They fell in love and were married in the Provo, Utah LDS Temple on July 14, 1978. Soon after their marriage while travelling through a snowy mountain pass they were involved in a car accident that resulted in Scott's passing.
Sheree's son, Andrew Scott, was born eight months later on August 15, 1979. She went out of her way to work odd jobs so she could stay home with him. These included sewing, teaching tole painting, doing floral work for weddings and proms, among other assorted craft related work. She would be considered "the epitome of the PTA mom."
In the mid-90's when Drew was in high school, Sheree went to work full time, as a Family Consumer Science Teacher at Independence High school, the alternative high school for Provo School District. Working with these more at-risk students gave her plenty of opportunities to serve and be a consistent presence in the lives of those who needed stability. She not only taught, but loved her students, and they loved her. She was often found at school doing extra work, setting up decorations for school activities, such as dances and doing the costuming for a majority of the school plays. She also was involved with cooking food for school banquets. Sheree was an integral part of IHS for 27 years, retiring in May of 2023.
At work she formed a strong bond with some of her colleagues and they would often travel together as a group, going on trips to Ireland and the UK, Italy, Boston and elsewhere. She frequently went on summer trips with her son and grandson. Her travels included trips with other family members going on cruises and to Hawaii to name a few. Growing up the family took many vacations, where the kids rode in the back of a camper to various National Parks, family reunions and other trips throughout the US, Canada and Mexico.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her entire life. Sheree served in a large variety of callings, always being known to go the extra mile. She used her talents to uplift all of those around her.
Sheree was thrilled to become a grandma when Casey Scott was born on July 14, 2005. This brought her extreme joy. Although she only had one grandchild she doted on all of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Casey's half-siblings were treated as if they were her own grandchildren. She made a majority of the girls blessing outfits with the last being just four months ago.
Every holiday, birthday or special event was elevated by Aunt Sheree's thoughtfulness and cheer. The beloved hot cocoa bar on Christmas, and special themed birthday parties with handmade favors and decorations made each person feel special. Whenever she would get one thing for anyone, she made enough for everyone. She greatly helped her dad by taking the lead on making sure the family Christmas traditions continued on after the passing of her mother Annette in 2022.
Sheree also assisted her dad with his love of tractors, frequently being the main person to help other members of his tractor club register for the various show events and parades. She loved being a part of this tractor loving community.
Sheree passed away in Orem, Utah peacefully in her sleep, where she had lived for the last 45 years. Her family members have used these words to describe her; selfless, caring, loving, creative, crafter, minister, Christlike, pure, without malice or guile.
She was preceded in death by her husband Scott, her sister Lorie and her mother Annette. She is survived by her son Andrew, grandson Casey, father Sheridan, brother Kip (Kayleen) Hansen of Richfield, Utah, sister Julie (Roland) Williams of Cedar City, Utah, KathiJo (Todd) Smith of Lehi, Utah, and brother Kris (Shelly) Hansen of Washington, Utah. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held in Orem, Utah at the LDS Church on 955 N 300 E, on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The funeral will be held immediately after at 12 Noon. A graveside burial will occur the following day on Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m. in the Cedar City Cemetery.
