SHERMAN BROWN Obituary

BROWN, Sherman J. L. "Laurie" Age 87, of Franklin, MA, formerly of Dover, MA, passed away peacefully, on September 5, 2025, after a brief hospitalization. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Teresa (Creagh) Brown. He is survived by his sister, Lee Allen (Bob) of Rancho Mirage, CA; his three children: Mike Brown (Laurie) of South Yarmouth, MA, Deb Egan of Mashpee, MA and Rich Brown (Patty) of Bakersfield, CA; his four grandchildren, Rebcca Altobello (Greg), Jessica Brown, Jennifer Egan and John Egan; and by nieces and nephews: Keats Boyd (Wendy), Chris Boyd (Kristen), Marty Brennan (Jada Breegle), Sheila Brennan (Ian Bird), Andy Rondeau (Tiffany), Dave Rondeau, Bob Kiley (Michelle), Steve Kiley (Becky) and Todd Kiley (Sarah). Sherm grew up in Wellesley, MA and attended St. Sebastian's in nearby Needham, where he graduated valedictorian of his class. He then went on to the College of the Holy Cross, where he became a sportswriter and eventually editor of the college newspaper. After graduating from college with honors, he joined his father's construction business, building many houses in Wellesley and Dover. He settled in a home he and his father built for his family in Dover, MA, where he resided for 40-plus years. After his father retired, he put away his hammer and nails and embarked on a lengthy career selling real estate, opening offices in Dover and Holliston. Sherm enjoyed many sports, including golf, tennis, bowling and baseball and he was an avid fan of the Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox. He provided daily Boston sports summaries for years, to family and friends who had left New England. He loved music, dancing, Broadway shows, playing cards and word games and entertaining family and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed playing games at the Franklin and Bellingham Senior Centers, where he made many new friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 9:30-10:30 AM, at George F. Doherty & Son's Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street, WELLESLEY, MA, followed by a Celebration of Life Mass, at 11:00 AM, at St. Paul Parish, 502 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA. Private interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley, MA, will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bonnie Skane Charitable Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation, 261 Whites Path, Unit 2, South Yarmouth, MA 02664. Capecodfoundation.org (508)790-3040.
