Sherman Williams Obituary

Sherman Allred Williams

1944 ~ 2022

Salt Lake City, UT-Sherman was born Sept 29, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was called home to our Loving Father in Heaven December 9, 2022.

He was welcomed home by his parents, John Thomas Williams II and Marjorie Allred, his brothers John Thomas III and Eric who preceded him in death. Sherman leaves behind a wife, Vona and 3 children: Lisa (Matt Hoagland), Spencer (Rebekah), Amy and grandchildren Rustin, Andy, and Lorenzo.

Sherman was born, 2nd of eight children, to a humble family. Nancy, Sherman, Tom, Ann, Sally, Tim, Eric, and Ben were taught from a young age to work hard, to love music, and be Christ-like examples. Sherman was able to accomplish many things in life. He served in the army and sang with the Tabernacle Choir. He married Vona, his beloved companion of 40 years, in 1982. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints service was an integral part of his life. He served as a missionary in the Great Lakes Mission, as a ward mission leader, a member of the stake high council and many other callings. He led by example throughout his life, doing all he could to share the gospel even in the most awkward times to every passerby, including telemarketers. He loved a good laugh while sharing his wit with others. He has impacted the lives of many and will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held December 17, 2022 at 12:00 PM. Friends and family may gather to visit from 10:00 to 11:45 AM, at the Skyview Ward 1361 East 4000 South SLC, Utah 84124.

Back in 1969 Sherman work at 8th Ave. Meat and Grocery. This was one of my first jobs in High School. Sherman was very kind and he showed me the rope in the produce and other areas of the store. He had a pleasant personality and a great smile, which he always wore. I haven't seen Sherman since he left the store.

I consider Sherman one of my best friends, even though we haven´t had a lot of contact in the last many years. He was always kind to me growing up in our ward and helped me get to and from high school in his big green bomb car. He always laughed at my jokes, and made me feel good about myself. He is truly a great man. Maybe I´ll see him out on the trail one of these days.

Our condolences to your family. We are thinking of you at this time. Glad we got to visit with Vona and Sherman before he passed away. Sherman fulfilled his callings faithfully. He is able to do so much now he couldn´t do before. He is a good, humble man. May the Lord give you peace and comfort at this very tender and sweet time.
