Sherrie Bateman Obituary

Visit the Lindquist Mortuary - Layton website to view the full obituary.

Sherrie Winegar Bateman beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt and dear friend returned home to our Heavenly Father on March 4th, 2026, at the age of 79. Though our hearts ache at her passing, we also find comfort in the eternal truths she lived by and the knowledge that families can be together again.

Sherrie was born on July 18th, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Donald Clyde Winegar and Marion (Timby) Winegar. From a young age, she developed the qualities that would define her life- faith, compassion, humility and love for others. Those who knew her immediately felt the warmth of her spirit and the quiet strength of her testimony.

She was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The gospel of Jesus Christ was not something she simply believed, it was something she lived every day. She served willingly and lovingly in many church callings, often behind the scenes, lifting others and strengthening testimonies. Her life was a living example of the Savior's commandment to “love one another”.

Above all else, her greatest calling was motherhood. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life and the focus of countless prayers offered with a mother's faithful heart. She loved deeply, sacrificed quietly, and gave endlessly. Her home was a place of refuge, laughter, guidance and unconditional love. To her family she was not just a mother and grandmother, but a teacher, protector, cheerleader and steady source of faith.

She believed deeply in eternal families. One of her cherished sayings and church hymns was “families can be together forever through Heavenly Fathers plan”.

Those who knew Sherrie saw that principle in her every day. She made everyone feel valued, heard, and loved. Her kindness reached family, neighbors, friends, ward members and strangers alike. She had a rare gift of seeing the good in others and helping them see it themselves.

She leaves behind a legacy far greater than anything that can be measured in years. Her legacy is found in the faith and love within her family and the countless lives she has touched.

She is survived by: daughter, Barbara Ann Ricker (Randal), son, Brett Bateman (Sammie), son, Travis Micheal Bateman (Amanda), son, Brandon Tyler Bateman (Carly), daughter, Debra Lynn Schwemmer (Joshua), daughter-in-law, Kellie Bateman, sister-in-law, Elaine Winegar, sisters; Bonnie Johnson (Tom), Charlene Talbot (Al) brother, Robert Winegar (Sharon), 32 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews who will carry her example in their hearts.

She is preceded in death by husband, Larry Douglas Bateman, daughter, Carrie Ann Bateman, son, Ryan Scott Bateman, parents, Donald Clyde Winegar and Marion (Timby) Winegar, and brother Wendell Winegar

Though we mourn her absence, we rejoice in the promise of the resurrection and the words of Russell M Nelson: “Because of Jesus Christ, death is not the end. It is simply the next step in our eternal journey."

Until we meet again, we will honor her by living the faith she taught, loving as she loved and remembering families are eternal.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday March 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Rd, Layton Utah. Friends may visit with family Wednesday March 11, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday prior to services from 9:00 to 10:30 at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Bountiful City Cemetery
