Sherrill McLamb Obituary

Sherrill Lee McLamb
December 31, 1942 - September 10, 2022
Angier, North Carolina - Sherrill Lee McLamb, 79, passed away unexpectedly September 10, 2022, surrounded by his large and loving family.
He was born December 31, 1942, in rural Harnett County and was the son of the late Dorothy Tew and William (Son) McClamb. He was a brother to the late William (Billy) McLamb, Bobby McLamb, Donald McLamb and Shirley Mitchell. We are comforted in knowing that Big Earl was waiting to greet him in heaven. They were confidantes and he trusted Earl with his most prized possessions â€" his family.
He worked for his father as a young man in a business where corn and copper combined to make some country boy magic. This business made it necessary to own a fast car, know a thing or two about back roads and have friends that were willing to be your lookouts. It taught him the importance of surrounding yourself with truehearted people who were willing to put themselves on the line for you and that is most certainly what he became.
He married Brenda Owen Gray on June 10th in 1983 and quickly discovered that he loved something more than fast cars and outrunning trouble, her children. We were his, claimed, loved, and made to feel special. Together they grew his wrecker business into a company that supported their growing family and made it possible to give to their community. Pa loved to pick up the check at a restaurant and was often the first person to show up with food when local families experienced tragedy. He kept Krispy Kreme in business showering many in the community with a dozen on a random Saturday because it made him feel good. He was a giver. He did not expect or want anything in return. He dedicated his life to serving others. He taught us the importance of being generous.
He was a big man with an even bigger heart who led in blessing our family meals. The blessings often served as proclamations to how much he loved the Lord and us. He was deeply emotional about both often shedding a tear as he humbly professed his gratitude for God's guidance and Nana's cooking.
Sherrill McLamb was his own authority, tough, fair, and fiercely loyal and protective of his family and those he loved. He did not look to anyone else to tell him who or what to be. He was original. Legend.
He had a special relationship with his oldest grandchild Lee. They were incredibly close.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday night at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier.
Sherrill is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; daughters Angie Gonzales (Mike) and Patrice Tippette (Jay); and sons, Ken Gray (Gail) and Jonathan Gray (Delia); grandchildren, Lee Davenport (Brittany), Peyton Gray, Tori Gonzales, Emily Gonzales, Weston Gray, Reagan Gray, Kaden Gray, Mattie Tippette, Kaylee Gray, Evan "Elvis" Gray, and Julie Gray; great grandchildren, Macie Davenport, Clara Davenport, Brenlee Davenport (arriving in January); and honorary grandchildren, Danielle Adcock, Kyle Milliron, DJ Faircloth; several nieces, nephews; and was Uncle or Pa to many in the community.

Sherrill came to my rescue a few times when my car wouldn't start and tow me wherever I wanted to go. We would joke, laugh, and talk about the good ole days with my family and friends. He's in a better place, but he'll be missed for sure.
