Brenda: A short time before Shaun left this old earth, I called and spoke with you. I asked if your husband would like to hear from an old friend and you said "yes." Not long ago that old friend joined Shaun in Heaven. Just wanted you to know.

Watched him perform with the Speer Family at a gospel concert in Portland, Oregon in the 1960s. Instantly became my favorite tenor singer. I still have one of his early solo albums. "Games People Play."

I never met Mr. Nielsen, but I just obtained the TCB necklace. Elvis gave him backstage after a concert. I loved his voice and Elvis once called him his favorite singer. I can see why rest in peace, my friend I´ll wear it with pride.

Sherrill and Brenda are God loving, God fearing friends and I enjoyed very much knowing Sherrill and listening to his fantastic voice..Elvis said it right when he told Sherrill "God loves you but he loves you best when you sing." I know he is singing in Heaven at this moment. What a talent; the best.

Sherrill was a class act! Years before his association with Elvis, he was known as one of the very best in Gospel music. I enjoyed performing with him and, above all, his friendship. Rest in Peace, My Friend.

I met Sherrill at the community center in Montgomery when we were both 14 years of age. I had started a rock band and was looking for a singer. Sherrill and I sat there singing gospel music most of the afternoon. I eas totally taken by his voice and even though we never sang professionally, I never forgot his name or that amazing voice. I completely lost touch after that meeting. I went on to sing Country music and never saw or heard about him again. I left the music business and later became a Chaplain in Waynesville, NC after working in Africa for over 30 years.
Sherrill, May our Savior and God open wide their arms to accept you into heaven..and the God Lord willing we will meet again in heaven. My sincere love to your family.

I have known Sherrill for many years, we sang on concert stages together when he was with Jake Hess and the Imperials. He was a great singer but he was an even greater person. I am so very sorry to hear of his "home going" but I can still close my eyes and hear that wonderful, pure voice of his and know that he truly has the peace that we that are left here can only imagine at this moment in time. He is a great loss not only to the world of music but to the world as a person. May God wrap his big arms of love around you "Shaun" Sherrill, my dear friend. And may He also surround his family with a peace that only He can do.

My condolences to the family of Sherrill "Shaun" Nielsen.
The song, "Softly, as I Leave You" has been in my mind, this A.M. & I was curious, as to who sang it, with Elvis. God gave them both a marvelous gift, which I'm glad the world got to hear !!!

Perhaps Ray Walker of The Jordanaires said it best: “Sherrill Nielsen has made his mark on the Gospel Field and on the Commercial Field, as well. Sherrill’s heart went into everything he did. His association with Elvis was a highlight in both their lives. Elvis enjoyed and respected Sherrill's heart, artistry and his willingness to share with him and others. Sherrill was one of the good guys.” Sherrill was always a joy to work with in the recording studio – a true professional; a legendary singer and performer. Listening to the many records we made together over the years, one quickly comes to realize that Sherrill Nielsen was truly a one-of-a-kind, special entertainer. Professionally, none will ever compare to Sherrill. As his producer/manager for many years, I am a witness to the fact that he was simply the best of the best. I know that he was Elvis’ favorite singer and from personal experience I know that he was one of the “good guys.” But, after all the years we spent together, the memory I will always cherish most is of Sherrill as a person; his unwavering loyalty and dedication; his support of loved ones and friends, of which I am proud and honored to say I was one.

He was one of the very best, probably my favorite. I heard Hovie Lister say one night in a concert right after Sherrill finished a song (quote) Sherrill Neilson is the best tenor singers out there and I ought to know because I have been to many County Fair's. As far as I'm concerned Hovie was right on it. So sorry about your lost and our prayers are with you. Jack Jackson

One of the two times I heard Shaun sing was in Columbus In. when he was with the Statesmen. At the opening of the second set, he came out, played and sang "Gonna Shout Hallelujah!". Many years later he was at a Grand Ole Gospel Reunion, and sang with the Prophets Quartet because Big Lew wasn't able to attend or had passed on. He was an excellent tenor, one a new tenor can learn much from, just by listening to him on records.
May God comfort you in the days and years ahead. He will be missed.

Dear ones,
My dear friend Sherrill Nielsen passed away on Friday, December 10, 2010.
I met Sherrill'Shaun'Nielsen and his wife Brenda for the first time on a performance
in Zaffelaere, near Ghent, Belgium at the end of 2004 That is where we decided
to start with a Gospel Album. The first album "Jerry Deewood sings with and from
Shaun Nielsen" was released in 2006 at the premises of the fabulous Sun Studio,
Memphis, Tennessee, where all recordings took place. The album hit all major
websites worldwide and even became a 7 months long Top 20 Favorite and a
Hot Top CD Review of the Southern Gospel News, a worldauthority. Not long afterwards,
a new album was realized in the Kelley road Studio, Memphis Tenn. and released in 2010.
This album almost got the same title as the first but we added "& Friends. Again the
album was good for a worldwide interest and in an amazing good interview on
'Blues Again', I clearly stated that Sherrill had a major influence on my singing career
if not THE major influence. Each album was good for 7 songs of Sherrill and one
song from myself. So, we spent a lot of time together, in spite of his many obligations
and performances in the States and in Europe. On this occasions he performed as a
duo with his devoted wife Brenda.
It was a real pleasure to see how we figured out what must be done. As we got further
into association I experienced Sherrill as a man with a great sense of humour, giving
so much and never asking something back, but most of all I knew him as a brother in
arms. That's what we really were: brothers in arms, for the good music from rock over
blues to gospel and for the good cause.
So, I'm asking myself over and over again: Sherrill why do you have to leave us so soon?
I know for sure, that I'm gonna miss you for the rest of my days. May the music we
made together, and the songs we sang together, be your legacy for all those who onderstand.
Your devoted friend,

To The Nielsen Family - My prayer is that these words God gave me will comfort you. They are MESSAGE FROM A LOVED ONE - I know your hearts are heavy and you miss having me there. But I'm with God in heaven where no one has a care. I just shook hands with Moses I met Job and Samuel too. Now I am enjoying a body that's brand new. It really was amazing when I walked through the gate I saw the beauty of this place and I could hardly wait. To see the many wondrous things I'd heard about for years. A place where all is joy and peace. A place that's free from tears. Peter said now come with me I'll take you to your guide. Soon I was standing with Jesus by my side. He took me by the hand and said "I'm so glad you came! Your place is reserved in heaven's choir; sing praises to My name". You should see my mansion it's a sight to see. Jesus had it custom built especially for me. I'm having the best time up here so don't be sad and blue. I'm looking forward to the day when I can usher you into this very special place where we'll live forever more. Please live for God so you won't miss the things He has in store.
Thank you Shaun for your service.
