Sherry Bemis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones Funeral Home - Burlington on Dec. 17, 2021.
Sherrill "Sherry" Rae (Paxson) Bemis, 76, of Burlington, passed away December 13, 2021 at the Coffey County Hospital due to complications from Covid-19.
Sherry was born in Emporia, Kansas on December 24, 1944 to Merle "Timer" Paxson and Lois (Hartpence) Paxson. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1962 and went on to Beauty School. She worked in the family salon with her mother, Lois, for a time.
On September 1, 1963 she married her high school sweetheart William (Bill) Bemis and they were blessed with three children, Todd, Susie, and Lori. They were later divorced. She married Phillip Hagemann in 1997, though they later divorced, they remained close friends.
Many will remember Sherry as a loving childcare provider. She also worked for local veterinarian, Dr. Snyder and then went on to work security at Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation until her retirement. Sherry was also a devoted foster parent and provided a loving home for many children in need.
Sherry would say that her greatest accomplishment in life was her family. She was most proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In February, 2018, Sherry was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. The family is grateful for the additional four years they got to spend with her.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Thomas "Tom" Paxson.
She leaves her children, Todd Bemis, LeRoy, Susie Becker and husband Jeff, Burlington, and Lori Breshears and husband Waylon, Vassar; 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many other friends and relatives.
The family is planning a celebration of life service at the Radiant Life Church in New Strawn on January 8, 2022 @ 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the local Coffey County Cancer Support group and sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
