Winsteads' Funeral Home - PortlandSherry Kay Benick was born on February 1946 in McAllen, TX to parents Kenneth & Mary Ann Thomas. Sherry grew up and attended Mcallen High School - Bulldog class of 1964. From there, Sherry married her high school sweetheart Bill Jones, and had her only child, Vivian. In 1967, Sherry began her first career as a banker at Mcallen St Bank, and went on to become the V. P. manager of Hill Country Bank in Lago Vista. Sherry retired from banking in 1994. Ready for a change, Sherry began her second career as the senior pastor secretary at FUMC Corpus Christi.
It was there that she met her precious Bob - the love of her life - who proved that sometimes the best decisions you make happen later in life. Bob and Sherry married on February 17, 1996 and remained happily married until her passing. In 2013, Bob and Sherry both retired and decided to pursue their dreams. They purchased a travel trailer and traveled all across America and Canada. They also purchased a small ranch in Central Texas where they passed many wonderful days together with their sweet dog Corkey. They became gentleman ranchers and shared some of the best times of their lives. They raised cattle and hay, and harvested turkey, hogs, and deer from their land. Eventually, their tranquil land turned not-so-tranquil when the drilling started. They sadly decided to sell their little piece of Heaven. Later, they sold their travel trailer in order to spend more time with their wonderful children and grandchildren.
Sherry was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, her parents, Kenneth and Mary Ann Thomas, her brother, Bruce (Mary Jane) Thomas, and sister, Suzanne (Charles) Cotton.
