Sherry Cauthen

1935 - 2026

LANCASTER, S.C. - Sherry Mungo Cauthen, age 90, passed away peacefully on Jan. 10, 2026 – just shy of her 91st birthday.
Sherry was born in Lancaster County on Jan. 17, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Hoyt and Queen Gordon Mungo. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1952 and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Heath Springs, S.C. She was involved in many committees and groups at New Hope.
Sherry worked for Springs Industries in administration until her retirement in 1990. While employed at Springs, she spearheaded several fashion shows in the 60's which were a huge success. After retirement from Springs she worked with Ozburn Financial Services for several years.
Sherry had a servant heart and deeply loved her church, her family and friends. She enjoyed playing golf, traveling and spending time with family and her favorite furry friends. She was passionate about animals, especially dogs, and had a heart for rescues.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Cauthen will be held Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at 12 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Adam Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.
She is survived by her granddaughters Tammy Howle (Chad) of Florence, Patti Brown of Florence, and Suzie Baughman (Joseph) of Lexington, and was blessed with eight great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her goddaughters Sherry Ogburn and Cindy Broughton of Lancaster.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Elizabeth Gardner, her son Gary O'Neal Brown, and her best friend of 70 years – Maggie Baker.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026 at New Hope Baptist Church.
