Verdun Family Funeral Home & Cremation ServicesSherry Lou Devriendt, age 72, of Greenville, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly, on February 8, 2026, at Corewell Health – Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Sherry was born in Belding, Michigan, on June 1, 1953, daughter of Willis Leroy and Marian (Stevens) Walthuis, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1971. Sherry served for many years as a Social Worker, assisting special needs individuals integrate into their communities to live full and productive lives. She loved her work and was committed to assisting her clients with a personal focus, giving each of them the best opportunity to thrive in their environment. She had an artistic side and loved to paint, creating paintings that her children and other family members will cherish forever. Sherry also loved to dance and almost never missed a Thursday night dance party event near Greenville, which she has attended for over a year and, at which, she has made many dear friends.
Sherry is survived by her children, Cinnamon (Brent) Laux of Greenville and Garren (Jamie) Lamonte of Portland; grandchildren Nathan, Tippey, and Kelsy; 7 great grandchildren; a step sister Sandy (Jerry) Slowik of Belding; and a special friend and companion, Bob Hays of Greenville; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends including the Thursday night dance crew. In addition to her parents, Willis Walthuis and Marian Melquist, she was preceded in death by her spouse, Denny Devriendt, and her stepmother, Audry Walthuis, who took Sherry in and raised her as her own daughter.
Sherry’s Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, Michigan 48809. The family will greet visitors at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 Noon, and a luncheon will follow the service.
