Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Niles on Jan. 9, 2024.
Sherry May Layman-Evans was born in
Benton Harbor, MI to Mary Josephine Bright-Layman and Stanley Dean Layman, as their third child on September 14, 1947 and entered her eternal rest at age 76 on December 24, 2023 at Lakeland Hospital in
Niles, Michigan.
Sherry was a bright light in any room that she walked into, people were drawn to her beautiful smile, kind demeanor and shining spirit. When she met someone, she always made an instant friend. She lived her life walking closely with Jesus and shared God with everyone she encountered, in word and action.
She lived an adventurous life; living in six different states, creating a rock garden of all the different places she travelled, and ultimately settling back down in
Niles, MI to be near to her family. She earned her diploma from Adult Education at Bell in 1983. She was excelled as a telemarketer and waitress due to her innate social abilities. She also managed the Niles Drive In Theatre for a time. She had the gift to work well with people and she made the most of that gift no matter where she was, which is why she always did well in customer facing roles.
First and foremost, she was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother. This is what she was most proud of. She cherished making memories with her children, siblings and grandchildren. Her family was everything to her, she loved to be with them and to learn everything that was going on in their lives. She gave her all for her family and always voiced her gratefulness for being blessed with a wonderful family.
Although she was a loving, funny and kind individual, she also knew how to stand her ground and her candor often surprised people. She was an avid bowler, ping pong and card enthusiast. She had an affinity towards birds but specifically hummingbirds. Sherry always wanted to laugh, have a good time and make sure everyone around her was doing the same. No one could tell a joke quite like she did, and even though the punch line often fell flat, she still managed to make it funny and get plenty of laughs from everyone.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Josephine Bright-Layman and Stanley Dean Layman, her brother, William D. Layman, and her grandson, Aaron D. Hall. Left to mourn Sherry are her two children, Mary Jo E. Hall and David L. Hall; her granddaughter, Sherry N. Brown; life- partner, best friend and other half of over 20 years, Scott D. Kinney, her sisters Judy J. Toombs, Brenda J. Perry, Joey J. Green, Bonita J. DeLange, Janet R. Layman, Mary F. Griffin, Carolyn K. Burden, Jo Marie Hafley and one brother, Larry W. Layman. There are too many to list that have been entwined and touched by Sherry's loving spirit that will mourn and remember her always.
Celebration of life for Sherry will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Visitation from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm and memorial service will begin at 3:00 pm.
