Sherry Lynn Hanebutt, 66, of Danville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital due to complications of cancer. She was born in Indianapolis on December 11, 1957, and was the daughter of the late John and Darlene (Hurin) Trotter.

Sherry was a 1976 graduate of Danville High School, where she played tennis, was a cheerleader, and was voted Homecoming Queen her junior year. She went on to attend Purdue University before embarking on her career. On June 3, 1978, Sherry married her high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Philip Hanebutt. Sherry had a generous heart for people and thoroughly enjoyed being a real estate agent and broker with Keller Williams and F.C. Tucker; she previously had a long career in the fashion retail industry with Paul Harris and Sycamore stores. She looked forward to meeting friends and colleagues often for lunch at the Beehive and Bread Basket in Danville, and adored a good slice of chocolate cake! Sherry enjoyed canoe adventures with her family, sewing for herself and her kids, tending her flowerbeds, and soaking in Leelanau County sunsets over beautiful Lake Michigan. She constantly had a strong cup of tea at hand (typically accompanied by a good book), and possessed a great sense of humor for her husband’s jokes and the wacky side of life. As an animal lover, Sherry had a heart for all creatures, especially her Siamese cats, barn cats, and goofy dogs of all kinds. She was always sweet, always patient, always supportive, always kind; her strong faith and love of Jesus Christ were the center of her life. She was a member of Northview Christian Church, where she enjoyed many years of fellowship and commitment with dear friends of all ages. Sherry was especially close to her bible study Life Group; they were a devoted group of friends, walking through the cyclical nature of life together. She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Philip Hanebutt of Danville; her daughters, Jessica Snell (Ryan) of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Laura Humphrey (Luke) of the United Arab Emirates; grandchildren Mae, Carys, Kit, Owen, and Bex; and her loving sister Tara Allen (Jerry). She was loved and will be remembered by her multitude of nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family members, as well as many dear friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm, at Northview Christian Church, 623 State Road 39, Danville, Indiana 46122. Burial will follow at Mill Creek Cemetery in Danville.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sherry’s name to Sheltering Wings in Danville, Indiana (www.shelteringwings.org) or Northview Christian Church’s Missions Fund (www.northviewchristian.org).
