Sherry Keiling Obituary

Sherry Kathryn (Koenig) Keiling, 75, went to her final resting place on August 16, 2025. She is survived by her beloved husband of 36 years, Thomas E. Keiling.

Sherry was born on July 25, 1950 in New Jersey to the late Albert M. Koenig and Winifred M. (nee Magill). In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by her adoring namesake aunt, U.S. Army Captain, Kathryn (Koenig) Miller.

In addition to her husband, Thomas E. Keiling, Sherry is survived by her loving family: Daughter: Annmarie (David) Bennett (DE), sister Joyce (Tim) Smith (FL), brother Matthew (Carolyn) Koenig (GA) and nieces Melissa, Kathryn, Amy and great-nephew Jackson.

Sherry graduated from Haddon Heights High School (NJ) in 1968 and graduated from Athens College (AL) in 1972 to earn her B.A. She worked at and retired from Marotta Controls (NJ) as a Senior Contract Administrator. Sherry oversaw and administered the defense contracts for government projects that included NASA, the space station and submarine projects along with administering the export licenses for the Marotta products.

While residing in NJ, Sherry volunteered at an adult "English as A Second Language" program impacting and helping many people learn to read and write English and improve their everyday lives. Sherry also worked at the YMCA in NJ and DE for ten years as an instructor in the "Live Strong" program. She helped cancer survivors regain their strength and confidence, and also helped people prepare for the fight on their own cancer journey.

Sherry was a selfless volunteer, a talented gardener, a skilled seamstress, an avid reader and a generous hostess. Everyone looked forward to her annual Al Fresco dinners, Christmas parties and her Christmas open house. Sherry also enjoyed traveling with her family. Whether it was a car trip through Ireland or a cruise on the Mediterranean, Sherry enjoyed the time spent with the family.

Sherry was a strong and fearless cancer survivor for many years but eventually succumbed to this terrible disease. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Sherry's name to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, the American Cancer Society or the YMCA Live Strong Program.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Dover Elks Lodge on Saturday, October 25th, 2:00-7:00PM. Please use the entrance in the rear of the building. Dover Elks – 200 South Saulsbury Road, Dover, DE 19904

In my mind, Sherry will always be remembered as a loving, joyful most positive person. A ready laugh, an openness to life and a kindness of Spirit! We were all lucky to have known her in whatever capacity that was.
God Bless Sherry, and thank you for teaching us how to be better!
