GARDENDALE, TX - Sherry Gwen Roberts Leverett of Gardendale, Texas passed from this life into the next February 15, 2026 in Los Angeles, California, while visiting her son.
Sherry Gwen Roberts was born September 10, 1945 to Elon Mozelle Hufstutler Hinds and Laurence Roberts in
Abilene, Texas. Opportunity drew the Roberts family from Abilene to Odessa, where the family opened Robert's Hardware, selling boats. Sherry graduated from
Permian High School in 1964, where she met C. Dale Leverett, whom she married on June 5 of that same year.
Sherry, Dale, and their family moved from Odessa to Gardendale in 1997.
After the loss of Dale in 2005, Sherry built a new life. The foundation for this new life was her faith in God, her family, her friends, and her business. Dedicated to carry on the legacy that she and Dale began with their company, Sherry brought water to Gardendale, pursued development of the area, and continued ranching in southern Texas.
Sherry's daughters spent more than three decades living and working alongside her. Tea time was a highly valued tradition for those in proximity, especially with her dear sisters in law, Debbie Leverett and Twilla Leverett. Sherry took great joy in hosting all, offering a
refreshing glass of iced tea and a nice chat. Friends and family formed strong connections with bits of wisdom and fun served along with the iced tea.
Sherry Gwen carefully maintained lifelong friendships by taking time to visit her friends or have them visit at her home. She remembered birthdays and paid attention to those around her. She tended to her friends and family as beautifully as she tended the gardens
that she loved so much.
Known as "Mamie" to her devoted grandchildren (there are 10) Sherry demonstrated exceptional skill in organizing gatherings of any size, embracing opportunities for celebrations. A homemade Mexican buffet was easy to put together for an impromptu dinner, and could stretch to feed a few more that might happen in.
Serving was something that came naturally to Sherry Gwen, she spent years teaching Sunday School and mentoring the kids around her, including the numerous nieces and nephews that reciprocated her love.
Sherry Gwen travelled with her kids and grandkids and was present in all stages of her grandchildren's lives. Homeschooling, high school, presentations, performances, Mamie was always present, smiling and happy to be there. Weddings and babies and the lovely moments that make a life worth living were part of Sherry's special grace. Sherry loved to take her grandkids shopping and spend time having sleepovers at home and at the ranch, these times were a welcome and anticipated weekly event! She enjoyed visits from her son and his children from LA on occasion as well.
In recent years, with failing health, Jami and Addie were able to care for their mom. Her faith and love for Jesus sustained all through these difficult times. Sherry shared her pearls of wisdom and love for Jesus generously and without reserve.
