Heaven gained another angel on Saturday, July 12 when Sharon Kay Schooley (fondly known as Sherry) passed away suddenly at home.
Sherry was born in Muncie, Indiana to Mary (Boone) and Gerald Buchanan. She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1962 and attended Ball State University where she received a Master of Arts degree.
On June 26, 1966 Sherry married her best friend and the love of her life, Carl Schooley. They enjoyed 54 years together - traveling and sharing many adventures throughout the United States until his passing in October of 2020.
Sherry worked for Ball State University, Nelson Insurance Agency, BMH Homecare and Open Door Health Services until her retirement in 2004.
She grew up attending Madison Street Church and later became a devoted member of Fountain Square Church. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Warner Gear Sympathy Club. She was also a lover of animals and doted on her beloved kitties as well as caring for the neighborhood brood.
In addition to her Fountain Square Church family, she had a tight-knit circle of longtime friends including Billie Kennedy and Sandra Duncan, Jan Coburn, Nancy Hunt, Sally Sloan, Mary Ann Robinson and many others. She enjoyed going out to eat and delighted in spending time with them. Her cheerful smile, kind heart and wonderful sense of humor was a blessing to all who knew her.
Sherry's faith was foundational and she had an active church life. She enjoyed attending services and volunteering on committees over the years. She was instrumental in helping to create the Madison Street Church food bank and made serving others a priority throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Boone) and Gerald Buchanan, her step-father, Mitchell C. Nelson, step-brother Robert Nelson and her husband, Carl Schooley.
Sherry is survived by a step-brother Cleo Ron Nelson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a step-sister Betty Jane Nelson of Oregon, nephew Rod Schooley of Colorado, and nieces Debbie Schooley of Colorado, Lisa Domer of Ohio, and Susie Schooley of Muncie, in addition to a great niece, Kristy Schooley of Colorado; and sister-in-law, Mary Schooley of Muncie.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 2:00pm at Fountain Square Church, 4405 S. Madison Street, Muncie, IN 47302 with Pastor Steve Graves officiating. Guests are invited to a visitation which will begin at 1:00pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fountain Square Church at the address listed above, or to the Muncie Animal Care & Services, 901 West Riggin Road, Muncie, IN 47304.

I´m so sorry that I just found out about Sherry leaving for Heaven in July. I would have attended Sherry´s Funeral in order to honor her beautiful life. Sherry and Carl were great friends to our entire family. In fact, Carl called us every Christmas morning to be the first to wish us a Merry Christmas!!

Sherry has been my friend since childhood. I met her at Madison St.
Methodist Church. We were 4 or 5 years old! Sherry was always so sweet and kind, a friend to everyone, a true angel on Earth.
And now, in Heaven, too.

Sherry, I will always love you...Shirley
