On the 1st day of September, Patsy Ruth Smith passed away peacefully at her home in Muncie, Indiana, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Patsy was born on May 25,1942 and lived her early years in the southern Indiana towns of Bicknell and Ellettsville. She graduated from Bicknell High School, got married, then moved to Muncie, where she lived the rest of her life. Patsy obtained 3 degrees from Ball State University.

She began her teaching career at Cowan Elementary School and then taught at Burris Laboratory School. She then became a principal at Union Elementary School. She loved her students and was very proud of them. After a career in education, she became a very successful realtor. After retiring, she owned and operated apartments in Muncie.

Patsy enjoyed playing bridge and mahjong games, spending time with her friends that she loved, traveling with her husband and friends all over the United States and many places around the world. She also truly enjoyed her yearly trip to Chautauqua Institution, watching Pacers games, reading and listening to music, dining out with family and friends. Patsy took tremendous pride in researching her family's history and renovating historical homes and furniture. Patsy delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, volunteered weekly and was very active in the churches she attended, was very involved in the Muncie Historical Society, and was a former Director of the Masterworks Chorale. She was always available to help others.

Patsy adored her family and friends, and her favorite thing was spending time with them. Patsy was very outgoing, and everyone loved her. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, friend and role model. Patsy is the mother of James Smith (wife Jami, stepchildren Jake and Blythe) and Jill Marker (husband David). Patsy is the proud grandmother of Trevor Smith (wife Chelsea), Justin Smith, Jarod Marker and Grant Marker. To her extreme delight, Patsy recently was blessed with her first great-grandchild, Jackson Smith. She is survived by many other relatives and friends that she loved very much.

Patsy lost Jim, her husband and soul mate of 67 years, 10 months ago. She had a very strong faith and often spoke of joining him and other cherished family and friends in her next life.

As Patsy wished, there will be no services at this time, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
