Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation ServicesSherry Louise Stapley, 69, of Powell, Wyoming, passed into the loving arms of her savior Jesus on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, following heart complications during a surgery in Billings, Montana.
She was born in Mesa, Arizona, on Jan. 20, 1956 to Shirley and Harold Stapley. She grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and graduated from Apollo High School in 1975. Sherry started out life with a slight disadvantage: She had some oxygen deprivation at birth, but that never stopped her from enjoying life to the fullest. She was always happy! She married Randy Holmes and they had two children, William and Melissa. They later divorced and she married Jay Jewett. They later divorced. She held many jobs, often having more than one at a time. She loved working and helping others and had many friends. She was very infatuated with Harley Davidson motorcycles. She loved karaoke, bingo and dream catchers.
She moved to Cody, Wyoming, in 2019 to be near her sister, Toby Sheets, and to have help after she nearly lost her left leg due to a bad infection after a knee replacement (many years previous). The doctors in Billings, Montana, were able to save her leg, but the rod they put in kept her from walking as she loved to do. After her surgery to save the leg, she moved into Powell Valley Care Center in Powell, Wyoming, in 2020, where she lived happily until her death due to heart issues. She loved her life at PVCC, receiving loving and wonderful care. She made many friends there who will miss her. There’s a joke floating around the Care Center that she’s up in heaven at a biker bar playing Alan Jackson music.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley and Harold, and her brother, Dennis Stapley. She leaves behind her son, William (Norma) Holmes and daughter Melissa (Beau) Shoppa; grandchildren, Makenzie Holmes, Tristan, Connor, Kane and Delaney Shoppa; sister, Toby Sheets (Philip), Linda Stapley (Yuton Guinn); sister-in-law, Regenia Stapley; many nieces and nephews; and many friends in Phoenix and Powell.
A celebration of life will take place at PVCC on Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Any who knew her are welcome to attend. She has been cremated.
