Norma Stapley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Utah Mortuary - Cedar City on Mar. 9, 2026.
Norma Stapley, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 6, 2026, while surrounded by loved ones.

Norma was born on March 31st, 1937 in Murray, Utah to Eldon and Viola Nielson. She was the "middle" child of 16 children! She shared many happy memories of the times she spent growing up with her family. After graduating from Murray High School, she worked at the LDS hospital as a nurse's aide. It was during this time that she met DeeEl Stapley and it was love at first sight! They married on February 15th, 1957.

Norma and DeeEl had 6 children - one daughter and five sons. Norma loved to say, "I had one daughter, then boy, boy, boy, boy, boy!" Norma was a wonderful mother! She devoted her life to taking care of her children. She brought so much joy and laughter to her family!

Norma was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many different auxiliaries through the years, but especially loved working with the children in the primary. After her children were grown, Norma and her husband DeeEl, influenced, helped, and loved people from all around the world as they served two missions in New Zealand and Hawaii. After her true love, DeeEl, passed away she served another full-time mission on her own at the Church History Library in Salt Lake City. She also served a service mission at the Bishop's Storehouse in Cedar City, Utah.

Norma had a gift for teaching and working with children. She spent many years as a teaching assistant in the Iron County School District, where she was loved by students and staff alike. She developed many lifelong friendships during her years in the school district.

Norma is preceded in death by her husband DeeEl, grandson Alexander, and daughter-in- law Geneil. Ten of her siblings also preceded her in death.

Norma is survived by her six children, DeAnn Graff (John), Steve, Jeff (Catherine), Brent, Darren (Gina), and Mike (Nancy). She is also survived by her siblings Joy, Faye (Vern), Vaughn, Elaine (Delton), and Darlene. Norma has 20 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren!

Norma will be missed greatly, but the Christlike example she and DeeEl set will remain with us and guide our future.

A special thanks from our family goes out to the wonderful people at Three Peaks Assisted Living and those from Zion's Way Hospice Care.

A viewing will be held Friday March 13th at 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the Summit Ward chapel at 55 East Main Street in Summit Utah. The funeral will immediately follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Summit Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.

Hopefully I can add a picture later but for now I just wanted to say how much I´ve always loved Aunt Norma and Uncle DeEl. I have to include him because that´s the only way it should be. Now they are together with beautiful little Alexander. I will always hear her voice yelling at Uncle DeEl for letting the boys do something she felt was totally dangerous. But dangerous to Aunt Norma was everything that boys did. . I loved our time in Summit during the summer vacation trips. I can still see her standing on the front step to welcome us and then to say goodbye. I hated goodbyes. Our reunions were so crazy with all the sisters talking and nobody listening to each other . I loved it and wanted to give my family the same memories. I use to wish I lived there. I love you Aunt Norma. Thank you for DeAnns hand me downs(she had great clothes and I loved it) and the Royal treatment while we were there.
