Sherry L. Steffes, of Hanover, IL, passed away Monday, January 8, at her home in Hanover. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 15, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Hanover. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 14, as well as one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Sherry was born September 11, 1953, in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of LeVere and Lois (Gamble) Steffes. She attended Hanover schools, and graduated from Hanover High School with the class of 1971. After graduating Sherry enrolled in the Freeport School of Nursing, earning her degree in three years. She was to be a nurse her entire career, a job that suited her love for caring for other people.
Throughout her time as a nurse Sherry worked for the Galena Hospital, the Elizabeth Nursing Home as Director of Nursing, and the Savanna Hospital as Director of Nursing. Working at the hospitals she delivered many babies when the doctor couldn't make it on time. Sherry volunteered for many organizations in her spare time. She was a Hanover EMT for a number of years, and volunteered for the Special Olympics at Chestnut Mountain. She also trained emergency workers in CPR and other life-saving protocols. Sherry held a strong religious faith as a member of The Latter Day Saints and attended services in Dubuque, IA. She served as Primary President and Relief Society President at various times. She loved researching family history and enjoyed temple trips to Nauvoo, IL.
Sherry will be dearly missed by her son Blaine Steffes of Madison, AL; brother Steve (Diana) Steffes of Lanark, IL; sister Sheila Steffes of Lanark, IL; niece Tina (Connan) Dickman of Lanark; nephew Jason (Tracy) Steffes of Camanche, IA; 6 great nephews and one great niece. Sherry is preceded in death by her parents LeVere and Lois.
