Mildred (Millie) D. Steffes, nee James, age 100, longtime resident of Hinsdale, IL, born and raised in Melvindale, Michigan to her loving parents Jolly and Mabel James. Beloved wife of 70 years to the late Leo R. Steffes; loving mother of Laurel (Edward) Murnane, Susan (Gary) Kahler, Thomas (Darla) Steffes, Patricia (the late Daniel) Berman, Gail Steffes, Marilyn Goodwin, Edward (Sheryl Handley) Steffes, and Mary Kay (Steven) Appelbaum; cherished grandmother of Michael (Melissa) Murnane, Terri (Rob) Otten, Brian (Beth) Murnane, Amy (Anand Lothe) Stuart, Sarah (Tom) Mustillo, Kevin (Kerry) Steffes, Kim Steffes (Scott Woodrum), Kate (Chase) Wessinger and Sam Appelbaum; dear great-Grandmother of 20; fond sister of Richard James and preceded in death by her five sisters and one brother.
Millie was a talented dancer, an avid reader, enjoyed listening to music and loved being with her family. Millie was an exceptional baker, and her children always enjoyed eating the fruits of her labor.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation, on Saturday, May 31st from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass, 10:00 a.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 306 W. Fourth St., Hinsdale. Interment Bronswood Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials to Christian Appalachian Project or Northern Illinois Food Bank, are appreciated.
