Sheryl Lynn Patry
December 17, 1967 - November 14, 2024
With a joyful heart and a spirit full of love, we celebrate the life of Sheryl Lynn Patry, who passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024 at the age of 56 after a brave, unwavering fight against ovarian cancer. Sheryl's radiant joy and boundless generosity were known to all who crossed her path. A beloved part of the North Ridgeville and Put-in-Bay communities, she was cherished for her music, warmth, and humor. Her life was a testament to her unwavering belief that she was a beloved child of God. It was through his love that she was able to share grace and compassion with all of those whose lives she touched.
Born on December 17, 1967, in Medina, Ohio, to Elaine and Leon Patry, Sheryl's zest for life blossomed early. She attended Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and Medina High School and spent her summers at Cedar Point delighting families as a Berenstain Momma Bear. After graduating, Sheryl moved to Lansing, Michigan, and served as a houseparent at the Lansing City Rescue Mission and Sisters Maternity Home. She went on to become Director of Pregnancy Services of Greater Lansing, helping countless families for over a decade.
Sheryl later returned to Ohio and earned a bachelor's degree in Human Services from the University of Phoenix and got her first job working with senior citizens at Independence Village in Avon Lake. Later, Sheryl became the Activities Director at The Normandy and St. Mary of the Woods. Her care and creativity in this position eared her Ohio's Activity Assistant of the Year Award in 2022.
An artist of many talents, Sheryl could play just about any instrument handed to her, from piano and ukulele to saxophone, harmonica, and Irish flute. Her voice and humor brought joy to senior centers and dementia care groups across Northeast Ohio, where she and her devoted dog. Harmony, performed as Harmony and Me. Sheryl filled her days with music, storytelling, and laughter, often surrounded by friends and family at her cherished family cottage in Put-in-Bay, Ohio. She adored singing on her front porch, playing croquet and cornhole, picnicking at the state park, riding around on her golf cart with Harmony and her niece Anna, and catching the breathtaking island sunsets. Sheryl loved teaching the ukulele to anyone who wanted to learn such as her niece Anna and her cousin Char.
Sheryl is survived by her sister Marsha Patry (Anne Pressley) and their daughter, Anna Patry; her cousin Char Shryock (Todd) and their daughter, Allison; her cousin David Roesch (Anne) and their sons, Andrew (Morgan), Jack, Joseph, and Sean; and, of course, her faithful companion, Harmony. She joins her beloved parents, Elaine and Leon Patry, who preceded her in passing.
A visitation will be held at McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home in Westlake on November 22, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A service celebrating Sheryl's incredible life will be held at St. Mary of the Woods Chapel in Avon, Ohio, on November 23, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
