Shirleene Ann Westerhold, age 88, of Rio Rancho, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 22, 2023. She Was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Eugene “Gene” Westerhold, parents, James and Ella Scullawl, in-laws, Charley and Bertha Westerhold, Granddaughter, Wenona Westerhold, and son-in-law, Bill Cushing. After high school, Shirleene married her sweetheart, Gene, in May of 1954, which they were married for 55 amazing years. Shirleene drove a school bus for Los Alamos Public Schools for 13 years. Shirleene then worked for Los Alamos National Labs for 10 years before retiring to spend quality time with the love of her life, Gene. She enjoyed family camping trips and going hunting with her husband. Playing bridge with her friends was a favorite past time with the many bridge clubs she belonged to. The thing that brought her the most joy was spending time with her grandchildren and attending all their special events while watching them all grow. She will be dearly missed by her loving family. Shirleene is survived by her children, Steve Westerhold of Rio Rancho and Gina Cushing of Clovis, daughter-in-law, Lucille Chavez of Los Alamos, sister, Karen Lohman and husband Leo of Arvada, Colorado. Grandchildren, Casey Cushing and his wife Ashlee of Clovis and Ryan Westerhold of Santa Fe, great-grandchildren Elyssa Westerhold, Madysen and Bradyn Cushing , great-great-grandchildren Jada and Cameron Green, her faithful companion Tucker, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
Graveside memorial service will take place Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at Guaje Pines cemetery in Los Alamos.
