Daniels Family Funeral Services - Sara Road ChapelIt is with sadness, yet hearts full of gratitude, that we announce the passing of Russell E. Edwards, who left us peacefully on June 28, 2025, at the age of 94. An Air Force veteran, career sales engineer, devoted family man, and avid bridge player, Russ lived a long and fulfilling life.
Russ was born an only child to Myron Edwards Pugh and Emma Johnson Pugh on August 4, 1930, in Madison, Wisconsin. Following the death of his parents, he changed his name to Russell E Edwards. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1953 with a degree in metallurgical engineering. He worked as a sales engineer for the Rockford Clutch Company in Loves Park, Illinois for 38 years. He was a very loyal employee for the entirety of his career.
Before embarking on his engineering career, Russ proudly served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. In 1954, while stationed at Kirtland Air force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico he met Mary Patricia Owens, and they were married on July 24, 1954. They lived in Roscoe, Illinois until retiring in 1992 and then moved back to Albuquerque. Together they shared 68 years of marriage filled with many wonderful trips across the country and overseas. Mary Pat preceded him in death in 2022.
Russ was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his three children Ronald (Karla) Edwards, Linda (Mark Kelley) Mortensen, and Glenn (Myra Love) Edwards; along with his eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Russ loved meeting people and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. An accomplished bridge player and longtime member of the Duke City Bridge Club, he found great joy in the game throughout his life, competing with friends and always seeking to sharpen his skills. His competitive spirit and sharp mind made him a formidable player. He also thoroughly enjoyed watching and playing golf.
A celebration of life will take place at Cross of Hope Church on September 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Russell Edwards memory to Habitat for Humanity, a cause that he served as a volunteer for many years.
