Shirley Abbott, 88, of Marietta, died May 20, 2025.
Shirley was born September 2, 1936 in Montgomery, West Virgina to Shirley Dare Kelly and Etta Louise Adams. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and missed her husband dearly who passed away in 2023.
She graduated from Marietta High School in 1954 and after high school she worked at BF Goodrich as a secretary and telephone operator from 1954-1959.
She married Gordon Abbott on September 20, 1959
She was a long-time member of Sand Hill United Methodist and the church treasurer for 15 years. She really enjoyed painting, enjoying the outdoors on her swing that Gordon made and baking for her family (we loved the red hot applesauce).
Shirley will be deeply missed by her two children Melinda Geisler (Bob) of Charlotte, NC and Julie Burchette (Steve) of Summerville, SC; grandchildren Tiffany (Brian) Henson, Stephen Geisler, Collin Burchette, Kelly Burchette and Katie Burchette; great-grandchildren Eliand Lydia Henson, Giada Geisler; cousins, Steve, Kathi, Eric and Susan Neunaber; special friend since childhood, Peggy Huck.
In addition to her parents Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Abbott and special friend since childhood, Gertie Fryman.
