Shirley Howell Barber

Shirley Barber (Howell), 75, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on July 13, 1950, in Plant City, Florida, Shirley lived a life marked by devotion to her family and the enduring bonds of love and care she nurtured throughout the years.

She was married to Mack Barber. She was the beloved daughter of Geraldine and D.O. "Fuzzy" Howell and grew up alongside her sister Cathy Tigert, all three of whom preceded her in death. She was also the sister of Carol Melton. Shirley carried forward the values instilled in her during her upbringing-kindness, resilience, and a deep sense of family-which became the foundation of her own home. She always put the needs of others before her own.

Shirley was a loving mother to three children: Sherry, Joy, and John. Her legacy continues through them and their families. Sherry and her husband Aaron are parents to Luke (19), Jacinda (17), and Kenzi (15). Joy and her husband Herman have two children, Lee (22) and Tori (17). John and his wife Janna are parents to Sam (26), Laney (22), and Ben (18). Shirley cherished each of her eight grandchildren deeply, finding joy in their lives and accomplishments.

Her presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew her-family members who relied on her warmth and wisdom, friends who valued her companionship, and grandchildren who adored their Grandma.
