Shirley Bowen, born on August 16, 1937, in Kansas City, KS, passed away peacefully, with family at her bedside on November 4, 2025, at the age of 88.

Shirley's professional life was dedicated to the field of hospital administration, where she made significant contributions during her tenure at Select Specialty Hospitals. Her career was marked by her compassion and commitment to improving the quality of patient care.

Outside of her work, Shirley had a passion for travel and loved spending time at the beach. She had a deep affection for animals and found joy in nurturing any creaturewith four legs, including deer, dogs, cats, and even chipmunks. Her yard was a sanctuary for birds, as she delighted in attracting and feeding them.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Wilma Hopper; her son, Jeff Bennett; her husband, Larry Bowen; and her grandson Mason Bennett. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Peterson and her husband Brad, and Jenni Danner and her husband Jay Krupco. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Lucas Peterson and his wife Laura, Katie Mitchell and her husband Jason, Beth Geunther and her husband Marcus, and Sydney Danner. And her beloved cat Coco.

In accordance with Shirley's wishes, the family will hold a private ceremony at a later date to celebrate her life and memories.

Those who wish to honor Shirley's memory are invited to make donations to Kansas City Kansas Animal Services (fkas.betterworld.org) on her behalf, reflecting herenduring love for all creatures great and small.
