Shirley L. Burkart

Shirley L. Burkart of Bronxville passed away on February 17, 2025. Loving daughter of the late Maxine Janes, sister of Joy Temperio, Sandra Zastenik and Ronald Burkart. Aunt to 10 nephews and 2 nieces. Special God-Daughter and life-time companion to the late Eleanor Slattery, and Eleanor's family, her brother Edward, his wife Evelyn, their children Anne (Pat), Robert (Ann) and Eileen, their grandchildren Marie (Tom), Alison (Sam), Kim (Eric), Corey and their great-grandchildren Colin, Finn, Asher, Teddy, Henry and Caroline. Devoted friend to Luci Abruzzo, Olga Bruhn, Helen Hoffman, Jackie Goin, Joan Rooney and Sister Florence Mallon.
Shirley had a successful 26-year career working for the Great Lakes Carbon Corp., retiring as Benefits Manager. After converting from the Protestant religion to the Roman Catholic Church, she became very active in her parishes, Good Shepherd, NYC and St. Joseph's Church, Bronxville.
Calling Hours will be held at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville between the hours of 2 to 4 pm on Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 21, 2025 at St. Joseph's Church, Bronxville at 9:45 am.
